Evelyn Barrameda : Born September

In the Quick Video is Rev. Fr. William H. Kreutz SJ alias "Fr. Bill", my spiritual adviser for 50 years. It was his 80th birthday when this video was taken by Ricky Jalbuena. I was still somewhat sick with coughs and colds back then  in 2015 at the Asian Institute of Management.

Let the Scriptures be our lighthouse.

Let our added knowledge and wisdom lead us to the truth and the right answers and solutions.

We were made in the image and likeness of God. (Genesis 2:7)

I've served thousands upon thousands of customers and learned the meaning of patience. Different people have different views and problems of their own. In the end, regardless of their differences, they need one thing in common. Like you and me, everybody wants to be served. Just remember Jesus who said: "The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve."

41 years of experiences in the different divisions of multinationals have molded me into understanding businesses like they are human beings with the justifiable instinct to survive. It needs to adapt to changes. However, because its goals are for the good of people or other organizations, any business entity will have to add value and competitiveness.

That means you and me. We can create a better world together. Every person and every entity that seeks responsible freedom, peace, progress, and prosperity should live, believe, and achieve positive accomplishments within a lifetime -- good works for the common good. Our dream should be to provide the needs of all, including the less privileged among us -- more employment, more productivity, food, clothing, shelter, education, skills, and more Good Shepherds. Your business and/or personal capabilities should do good, not harm. The picture below was created at a time when I had many bibles at home. There used to be an old man by the name of Mang Roger (76) who listened to what the Lord has to say through Tagalog Bibles.

The Ministry for the POOR was supposed to proceed with a tarpaulin with a message shown in the lower banner of this webpage. He was able to say thank you. But in a matter of days, he was ejected for being a squatter doing a little business on a nearby piece of land beside our subdivision. That's what poverty is all about in the Philippines. Although nobody was living on that piece of land, he got ejected.

We should serve and love one another. Our businesses ought to be just one of the means to do just that, because it generates employment. It gives life for other people. The business, in itself, is supposed to meet some needs to increase the value of our civilized world. Are you living up to these commitments ?

(A Biblical Perspective of Liberation Theology for the 21st Century)

  • Misunderstanding About Liberation Theology
  • As a Violent Revolution

While it may be true that Moses had to send many miracles resulting in the death of unbelievers, and the reasoning of Liberation Theology proponents mentions Moses as biblical example of a leader who liberated the chosen people out of their slavery in Egypt, and who led them in the desert for 40 years to reach the promised land, we have to face the reality about great changes and major differences between the past and the present. Even Moses first tried the peaceful way by asking the Pharaoh to allow the Israelites to leave Egypt in peace. There should always be sufficient effort to change via the path of peace. Furthermore, even in the story of Moses, the punishments causing deaths were not done by the people but by God Himself.

  • As a Struggle Against Government

There is such a law about self defense. However, it should be done only as a last resort if

lives have to be protected. The government, as an institution, is supposed to be with authority from God’s own judgment. This must be seriously considered. Prophets were sent to clarify why God’s own chosen people had to experience sufferings. And we know that the cycle of overflowing sins, followed by punishments, the need for repentance, cleansing, then forgiveness and redemption have been part of the biblical histories which God had allowed to happen. Knowing this truth, any struggle characterized by a rebellious spirit (a contemptuous rejection of God’s Will) towards God and government will not prosper. There must first be reconciliation with Almighty God which can be observed by repentance and willingness to obey His Will even in the midst of sufferings. More on understanding this situation can be found within next chapters.

  • As Fast Track to Attain Social Justice

No one can accurately say when a generation of people might make a turnaround back to genuine faith in God. It is written in the Holy Bible that God does redeem at the right time. This timing has indicators. However, due to the truth that only God is All Knowing, and only God can see through hearts of people, we can only hope for signs of a forthcoming salvation from injustices experienced by the poor.

Time is within God’s control. What the bible says is this:

Proverbs 90:4 (ISV)
“One thousand years in Your sight are but a single day that passes by, just like a night watch.”

2 Peter 3:8 (NIV)

“8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.”

In other words, God can shorten the waiting time to a very short while, or delay the liberation from unusually great sufferings for many years. We should pray, ask, listen, understand, and respond to His calling. And then by trusting in God, He will send people to implement social justice at the right time.
